We’re hip deep in birthday madness. Pumpkin is about to turn nine and we’re having a pirate themed birthday. Money struggles, the monster electric bill, car problems, health issues and a bunch of other stuff means I’m throwing this party together without my usual prep. I haven’t begun the cake yet, haven’t found costumes for everyone, don’t have any real decorations made yet, let alone put up. So not me.
Today I decided that the kids should have a little treasure hunt (lawn mowing ponderings) and by nightfall, I had turned a diaper box into a treasure chest. Then I put in the booty I picked up today and realized I had a quandary. I could easily spend $50 trying to get this thing full. I don’t have $50. So I ran the issue by hubby and he suggested I fill it with popcorn (packing peanuts) because that’s what a commercial box would probably have. Why would any kid want packing peanuts? I want the kids to be able to divide up the spoils, just as pirates would do. Then it hit me. Most kids would love bubble wrap.
I ended up with several cut sheets of super bubble packing wrap, a few play swords that are meant for knights (but I figure a treasure chest might have old stuff like that) play coins, money mints, tootsie rolls, and mardi gras necklaces. As for the bubble wrap, I figure it will either be a big success or an epic failure.
